BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — Former Broward Sheriff’s Office sergeant Scott Nelson Nida was arrested Thursday night for violating the terms of pretrial services, according to an warrant issued by BSO.
This was Nida’s fifth arrest this year.
The warrant states that Nida, 55, was released to the Broward County Pretrial Services Program on July 30 “for the offenses of robbery/no weapon, grand theft auto, false imprisonment, tampering with witness/victim/informant” and “battery touch or strike.”
Authorities said Nida violated the terms of the program by “failing to reside at the James Club Program and follow any treatment recommendations.”
According to the warrant, detectives verified that Nida was discharged from the James Club Treatment Center, which offers “supportive sober living programs,” on Aug. 21.
Nida was previously arrested on July 11 for allegedly violating a domestic violence injunction.
According to BSO, he “separated from” the agency on June 29, a little more than a month after his third arrest.
Nida’s first arrest came in January after he was accused of attacking his longtime partner over infidelity. The victim later waived prosecution and a no-contact order was dismissed. She told investigators she “felt coerced into dropping the charges” because Nida allegedly said he would “lose his job and pension.”
But Nida was arrested again in April after being accused of attacking his partner for a second time and stealing her vehicle.
He was arrested one month later on a domestic violence injunction violation charge. A BSO report states that he allowed his girlfriend to live with him “because she and her daughter were forced out of their previous residence” and reached out to Nida “because they had no place to go.”
Court records show Broward prosecutors declined to pursue charges in that case.
His arrest report from July indicates that a concerned acquaintance of Nida’s called in a wellness check on July 11 after receiving concerning messages from him.
When authorities arrived, they said Nida went inside the home and moved around his house before coming back outside.
A police drone found Nida’s girlfriend and her child hiding in a storage area, with the report stating, “The pair went as far as to admit he had formed a plan for them to hide in the backyard if law enforcement came to the house for which they executed tonight.”
The woman told police they were at Nida’s home for weeks because of a financial crisis, and even had a key, the report stated.
As of Friday morning, Nida was being held at the Broward County Main Jail. Online jail records showed that his bond had not yet been set.
