HOMESTEAD, Fla. — A 63-year-old woman was attacked by two dogs while walking in Homestead Friday afternoon, police confirmed.
The woman was walking near the 200 block of Northwest Ninth Terrace when the dogs, described as pit bulls, attacked her, according to Homestead police.
Police said a witness reported seeing the dogs on top of the woman and intervened, shooing them away.
They said the woman suffered multiple bite injuries to the back of her head, neck, right arm and right ankle. She was alert and speaking with first responders but appeared to possibly be in shock, according to first responders.
Police said she was transported to Jackson South Medical Center where she is currently undergoing surgery and is in stable condition.
They said the two dogs were secured and later impounded by Miami-Dade County Animal Services.
Detectives said no arrests are being made at this time. Authorities said they will remain at the scene as a precaution until the woman is out of surgery.
No other details about the attack were immediately released.
