FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Shadow, a one-year-old hedgehog, is looking for a forever home, Cherie Wachter of the Humane Society of Broward said Thursday.

Found as a stray, Shadow is described as tiny, nocturnal, and “sort of like petting a cactus,” Wachter said.

Wachter added that hedgehogs need specialized care and an experienced owner, including a proper cage and a diet that may include live mealworms.

Wachter hopes Shadow will quickly find a loving home where he can safely explore and thrive.
