FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — An 8-year-old standard poodle named Theo is looking for a new home at the Humane Society of Broward County.
Theo spent his entire life with one family, but was surrendered after they moved and could no longer care for him amid family illness, officials said.
Staff say Theo is good with other dogs and likely does well with children, though his compatibility with cats is unknown. As an older dog, he walks calmly on a leash and prefers a mix of light activity and relaxing on a comfortable bed.
The dog will require regular grooming and daily eye drops to treat a condition known as dry eye, which can cost about $40 per month, according to HSBC’s Cherie Wachter.
“He’s a diamond in the rough,” Wachter said, noting Theo is expected to “sparkle” after grooming.
Also available for adoption is Shadow, a hedgehog found as a stray. Shelter officials say hedgehogs are nocturnal, making them a good fit for late-night pet owners.
Those interested in adopting Theo, Shadow or other animals can call 954-989-3977 or visit HSBC’s website.
