Humane Society of Broward seeks 'furever' home for Daisy, other furry friends.

The Humane Society of Broward County is highlighting a few animals in need of forever homes, including a 2-year-old dog named Daisy and a pair of unusually large guinea pigs.

Daisy is described as a 40-pound “love bug” who is good with kids and other dogs based on her time in a foster home. Shelter staff say she is shy at first but has a gentle, affectionate personality that comes out as she gets more comfortable.

At the shelter, Daisy has been quiet and calm, often resting on her bed. She also does well in the car and may bark when excited. Staff note she is heartworm positive, but say she will be treated at no additional cost to the adopter.

HSBC officials are encouraging families to visit the shelter to meet available animals.

HSBC’s Cherie Wachter said Daisy would make a strong addition to a home, especially for families considering a pet as a Mother’s Day surprise, as long as the whole family is involved in the decision.

In addition to Daisy, the shelter also has several cats and a pair of guinea pigs available for adoption.

The guinea pigs, nicknamed “Baby Doll” and “Black Mask,” weigh about 2.2 pounds each—larger than average for their species. Staff jokingly described them as “big boned,” but said they are cuddly and do well in pairs, and they are hoping to place them in a home together.

The shelter is located at 2070 Griffin Road, one block west of Interstate 95. Adoption services open daily at 11 a.m.
