CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The stakes will be high Saturday night when No. 2 Miami travels to Tallahassee to face in-state rival No. 18 Florida State in a top-20 showdown.
The Hurricanes are 4-0 and riding strong momentum behind a powerful offensive line and steady ground game.
Florida State, meanwhile, enters at 3-1 after falling to Virginia in overtime last weekend, a loss that dropped the Seminoles in the rankings.
The spotlight will be on Miami’s offensive line, which has been both a key to the running game and a source of protection for quarterback Carson Beck.
Among its leaders is right tackle Francis Mauigoa, who reflected on the rivalry’s history and significance.
“This has been a long rivalry, and you know some grades behind us has gone through this rivalry and it meant a lot to them,” Mauigoa said. “You know, it’s gonna be a battle, you know, and may the best one win.”
Mauigoa is part of a front line that features three players projected as future first-round NFL draft picks.
Their size and skill have fueled Miami’s early success and could play a decisive role in the outcome against Florida State.
Kickoff on Saturday from Doak S. Campbell Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m.
