“All this morning we got the hardware in the house,” Local 10 anchor Eric Yutzy said as the trophy was displayed in the studio.

On Monday night, the No. 10 Miami Hurricanes and the No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers will play for the championship, also known as “The Natty,” at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

It’s the first time that a team will host the National Championship game in their home stadium during the CFP era.

Local 10 was joined by Ryan Allen Hall, senior director of public events and sponsorships for the CFP, who discussed the significance of the trophy and the events surrounding championship weekend.

“I mean this is the best trophy in all of the world, and to be right here in Miami is special,” Hall said. “You know, both teams haven’t had one in a while, so it’s gonna be a big, big deal.”

The trophy itself drew attention for its design and weight.

Hall said it weighs about 50 pounds and is made of 24-karat gold. Hall added, “So I mean this is a special trophy for a very special game. Monday night is going to be wild.”

Hall also highlighted the pathway to the championship and the fan-focused events planned throughout the weekend for those without tickets to the game.

“It will be great, but we bring something to the Miami community for everyone who can’t get there Monday night,” he said. “So fan activities, concerts, culinary, whatever you like, we have something for you.”

Hall said free family events will take place Friday through Sunday at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

“So all three days Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Miami Beach Convention Center, free family events,” he said. “So come out, games, food, funds, former players, anything you wanna do, you’ll spend hours.”

Evening events geared toward adults include concerts at Lummus Park in South Beach. Hall listed performers such as Calvin Harris, John Summit on Saturday night, followed by Peso Pluma, Latin Mafia and Alvaro Diaz on Sunday.

Additional events include Taste of the Championship, described as “a culinary event, high-end, kind of a mini South Beach wine and food festival,” as well as a trophy run featuring 5K and 10K races.

The trophy, which is currently touring, remains untouchable for now.

“This is the rockstar,” Hall said. “Everybody wants a picture with it. Everybody wants to touch it. You can’t. One of the coaches will do that first on Monday night.”

He added that the trophy symbolizes the work and excitement leading up to the championship, which will conclude Monday night when either the University of Miami or Indiana University hoists it.

“This trophy, no replicas, one Santa Claus,” Hall said. “That’s what this is right here. This is the trophy.”

Kick off for the game is set for 7:30 p.m.
