MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — What a homecoming for Coco Gauff.
The South Florida native advanced to her first Miami Open final on Thursday with a commanding straight-sets victory over Karolina Muchova, of Czechia, in the semifinals.
Gauff controlled the match from the start, racing through the opening set 6-1 before closing out the second set by the same score to secure the win.
Despite arriving at the tournament not at her best physically, Gauff has found her form in front of a home crowd, delivering one of her most dominant performances of the event on the way to Saturday’s final.
Gauff will now look to capture her first Miami Open title as she continues her run in front of a supportive local crowd at Hard Rock Stadium.
Waiting for her in the championship match is No. 1 ranked Aryna Sabalenka, of Belarus, who advanced with a straight-sets win over Russian Elena Rybakina, setting up the final showdown.
On the men’s side, top players also moved through the semifinals, with Jannik Sinner defeating American Frances Tiafoe 6-2 6-2. The Italian will now face Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the men’s final of the Miami Open.
