Volunteers said there are a lot of people that are out of work in South Florida. “We know that without access to good jobs, there is no health,” said Melida Akiti, the vice-chair of the Health Foundation of South Florida. David Guetta to play 2-hour set in Miami to support Feeding South Florida
MIAMI – David Guetta will be playing a two-hour set in downtown Miami that will be live-streamed starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Guetta and the Miami Downtown Development Authority are raising funds for Feeding South Florida, Fondation Hôpitaux de Paris - Hôpitaux de France and the World Health Organization. “I’m very excited to share what’s been in the works for some time now,” Guetta said in a statement. Drive-through food distribution open every Monday in Palmetto Bay
As long as there is a need for food, Christ Fellowship and Feeding South Florida are determined to meet it. Every Monday, beginning at 12:30 p.m., families from across South Florida can come to the church’s Palmetto Bay campus and receive a heaping bag of essential groceries, including fresh produce and protein-enriched foods. People are not permitted to exit their vehicles or walk-up to receive the food donations. Feeding South Florida and the church expect to help at least 500 families every Monday. Don’t let fancy cars deceive you, says activist about poverty during coronavirus pandemic
It all prepared her to help people in need during the coronavirus pandemic. The business development manager at Jack & Jill Children’s Center, an organization aiming to break the cycle of poverty by helping children and their families, has been working hard to distribute free food at drive-through events. Alana Wortsman (Local 10 News)On March 25th, Wortsman was working outside of the Jack & Jill Children’s Center in Fort Lauderdale. Epidemiologists have advised that isolation is best to avoid COVID-19, the highly contagious respiratory illness caused by the new coronavirus. What happens to the food giveaways when the harvest ends?
“Our fear is, once harvest season is over in the next couple of months, we’re not going to have these great items, like green beans, the tomatoes you see behind me,” says Paco Velez, CEO of Feeding South Florida. All the wonderful things that South Florida grows — we’re going to start running low.”Velez says the organization’s supply of nonperishables is already dwindling. “We’re running short on peanut butter, we’re running short on canned tuna, canned chicken,” he says. Local leaders help feed South Florida families: ‘That’s what the government is for’
OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – It was all hands on deck as city employees and volunteers from Feeding South Florida packed bags full of fruit, veggies and other food items to feed a thousand families Tuesday in Opa-locka. Even the city’s police chief and the mayor were on hand. “We want to make sure everyone has fresh food during this time that a lot of people aren’t able to go to work,” Mayor Matthew Pigatt said. “The government is to be here for the people.”Tuesday morning’s giveaway was held at Sherbondy Park Pavilion. Those who were not able to pick up food Tuesday may email clientservices@feedingsouthflorida.org, or they can visit feedingsouthflorida.org/covid19 and use the agency locator to find a pantry that’s open near them.
Feeding South Florida in need of volunteers to help pack family meal boxes
PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Amid the coronavirus outbreak, local organizations are doing what they can to make sure everyone is taken care of, including Feeding South Florida. About a dozen volunteers were packing boxes full of food Monday morning in Pembroke Park, but they need a lot more help. Feeding South Florida is supporting Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach County school families who are going to struggle to put food on the table during the coronavirus outbreak. For those who can’t support in person, Feeding South Florida has just announced the Feeding South Florida COVID-19 Response Fund with up to $250,000 in matched dollars thanks to Ultimate Software and other friends.
