Star-studded benefit concert to honor nurses on Thanksgiving

The benefit will provide money for a variety of programs including scholarships for nurses and their children. MIAMI, Fla. – Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor wants young children to think of citizenship in a different way. Sotomayor said her preferred title would be “How To Be a Hero," and the book will portray acts of civic participation as heroic. Then she wrote an autobiographical picture book, “Turning Pages,” in 2018 and her most recent picture book, “Just Ask!,” published last year, about children with “life challenges” such as attention deficit disorder, autism, blindness and diabetes. Sotomayor told the crowd Tuesday not to scold children when they stare at people with deformities. The Cuban-born singer read aloud a question from a 5-year-old girl before asking her to approach Sotomayor.
Estefans ‘Feed a Friend’ during annual Thanksgiving tradition
MIAMI – Emilio and Gloria Estefan were serving Thanksgiving meals in Miami to those in need. The rhythm got a hold of the married musicians during their 12th annual "Feed a Friend" event Thursday. "We try to bring people together and, you know, give a little bit back," Emilio Estefan told Local 10 News. The Estefan Kitchen expects to feed between 2,000 and 3,000 people this year with traditional American dishes and Cuban classics. Emilio Estefan said they plan to expand into Orlando next year.

Garbage truck slams into recording studio in South Miami
SOUTH MIAMI, Fla. – A garbage truck collided with an SUV and then slammed into a recording studio owned by Gloria Estefan early Monday in South Miami, authorities said. The impact of the initial collision sent the SUV into a third vehicle, Camacho said. Paramedics transported two people who were riding in the garbage truck to Kendall Regional Medical Center. Camacho said the passenger of the truck jumped from vehicle before it hit the building, possibly saving that person's life. It serves as a recording studio for Estefan and her family.
