Women who died after car fell off Fisher Island Ferry identified

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Police have released the identities of two women who died after their car fell off the Fisher Island Ferry and sank in Government Cut. The U.S. Coast Guard monitors a total of five ferries which shuttle people and vehicles to and from Fisher Island around the clock. She had a strong desire to give back to the community,” Kristi House CEO Amanda Altman said. Afra volunteered her time and money with Kristi House, a children’s advocacy center that deals with children and trauma. “We were looking forward to her coming back and helping us at Kristi House.”

2 dead after car falls off Fisher Island Ferry into water

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Two women are dead after a car they were in fell off the Fisher Island Ferry and sank in Government Cut. The @USCG will conduct a maritime incident investigation.#Ready, #Relevant — USCGSoutheast (@USCGSoutheast) February 19, 2020Miami-Dade police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said the blue Mercedes-Benz has been recovered from the water. The Fisher Island Community Association sent Local 10 News a statement regarding the incident that read:“Shortly before 5:00 p.m. today, a vehicle on the Fisher Island Ferry ended up in the water for reasons still unknown at this point in time. Fisher Island Community Association is actively assisting the various agencies involved in the ongoing recovery efforts. We cannot confirm any additional details at this point in time.”The Fisher Island Ferry is used to transport residents of the private island community and their guests to and from the mainland.

Migrants, suspected smuggler, packages of marijuana interdicted by Coast Guard, CBP

MIAMI - Seven migrants, a suspected smuggler and 67 packages of marijuana were interdicted by the Coast Guard and U.S. Customs and Border Protection east of Government Cut on Thursday, officials said. CBP intercepted an improperly lit 27-foot cabin cruiser about seven miles east of Government Cut, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. Officials said five Jamaican migrants, one Bahamian migrant, one Italian migrant and one suspected Bahamian smuggler were discovered. CBP also seized 67 packages full of marijuana. A Coast Guard crew arrived at the scene, embarked the migrants and took them ashore to CBP, officials said.
