Lauras slight jog was a little good news
We watched with dread last night as Category 4 Hurricane Laura made landfall on the southwestern Louisiana coast. The larger-circulation storm moves more water, so the storm surge is higher and pushes farther inland. Thats Calcasieu Lake. Much of the area to the east of Calcasieu Lake is lightly populated, and we certainly hope everybody got out. A village at the south end of Calcasieu Lake named Cameron is the site of past hurricane disasters.

Bloomingdale’s to shutter Miami-Dade store
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – The Bloomingdale’s store that survived Hurricane Andrew was unable to withstand the retail storm destroying brick-and-mortar establishments across the country. The high-end department store’s Miami-Dade location at The Falls shopping center will be going out of business effective on Jan. 11. With only 35 stores in the U.S., the closing of a store like Bloomingdale’s is a reminder that all is not well in the retail world. The Bloomingdale’s at The Falls opened in 1984, but closed for over a year when it was severely damaged in Hurricane Andrew. The store reopened in late 1993 and has been an anchor at the mall ever since.
Tropical disturbance continues slowly drifting toward South Florida
MIAMI - A tropical disturbance centered between The Bahamas and South Florida is slowly drifting toward the state. The tropical disturbance we have been watching is getting a little better organized as it drifts toward South Florida. The biggest threat to South Florida appears to be localized flooding from gusty tropical downpours. After the disturbance moves away from South Florida, it will leave a tail of moisture behind. AUGUST 23, 1992: We woke up to 120 mph Hurricane Andrew aimed right at South Florida.
