Florida Keys murder suspect arrested in Mexico
MONROE COUNTY, Fla. One of two brothers sought in a fatal Florida Keys shooting from last month has been apprehended in Mexico. Jose Luis Espinosa Gomez, 34 of Stock Island, is being held by police in Jurez and will be brought to Monroe County to face charges in the death of Jose Manuel Clemente, the Monroe County Sheriffs Office says. Gomez and his younger brother Mayque Marin Gomez, 31, are accused of killing Clemente, 45, on June 15 in the commercial fishing trap yard on the 5000 block of 5th Avenue known locally as La Curva.Mayque Marin Gomez remains on the loose. Monroe County Sheriffs Office fires deputy following pair of internal affairs investigations
MONROE COUNTY, Fla. An investigation into excessive force has led to the firing of a Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy. Deputy Jon Riggs was dismissed Monday from the Monroe County Sheriffs Office after two separate Internal Affairs investigations were launched following complaints received in December. Riggs worked in the lower keys, the Sheriff's Office said. According to authorities, one incident that was investigated involved Riggs inappropriately and unnecessarily using a Taser and pepper spray on an individual in Key West. The other incident involved Riggs becoming out of control, using threats and profanity while interacting with a group of teenagers on Big Pines Key.

Investigators say Davis will face drug-related charges in Volusia County and charges of making written threats to do bodily injury in Monroe County. Florida Keys murder cold case from 1991 solved, sheriff says
Three decades later, the Monroe County Sheriffs Office says it has cracked the cold case. The Sheriffs Office says that her killer has been identified as Robert Lynn Bradley, who was himself killed in a homicide in Texas in April 1992 at age 31. The agency says that its major crimes unit detective Vince Weiner partnered with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and used new DNA technology to ID the victim and killer. Bradleys DNA was obtained from the 1991 crime scene in the Keys, the Sheriffs Office says. The Sheriffs Office says Kirkum was seen by witnesses hitchhiking out of Key West on Feb. 14, 1991.
Deputies: Man kidnaps teen, forces her to drive him through Keys checkpoint
Linhardt said they targeted the victim because her vehicle has Monroe County plates and a hurricane reentry sticker. Linhardt said the teen provided her drivers license to deputies at the checkpoint but didnt alert them about Sardinas because she was scared. Authorities said the teen continued heading south to a gas station at Mike Marker 92, where Sardinas got out of the vehicle. Linhardt said the teen drove the woman to a pharmacy and then called a family member, who then notified authorities. The victim identified Sardinas in a photo lineup as the man who kidnapped her.
Teen who fatally stabbed younger brother had trouble with law before, police say

Weisberger fatally stabbed his brother, Pascal Weisberger, 14, and his father, who was identified as Ariel Jacob Poholek, 43, near Mile Marker 87.2. The father had come in to see what was going on when he was also attacked,” said Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay. The teen’s younger brother was pronounced dead at the scene. Earlier in the day as police searched for Weisberger, Ramsay said: "He’s on the run.
Girl, 10, brings steak knife to school for self defense, deputies say
GOOGLE STREET VIEWMARATHON, Fla. - A 10-year-old girl brought a steak knife to school Friday in Marathon, and she showed it to other students in the cafeteria saying she planned on using it if an armed attacker entered the school, according to the Monroe Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's Office School Resource Officer Robert Bulnes found the knife in the fifth-grade Stanley Switlik Elementary School student's backpack and released her to the custody of her parents. "I'm grateful this young girl did not threaten anyone and that did not appear to be her intent," Sheriff Rick Ramsay said in a statement. Prosecutors are charging her with possession of a weapon on school grounds. Deputies said the girl did not threaten anyone with the knife.
