WESTON, Fla. — A driver was airlifted Saturday morning after a serious crash on the Sawgrass Expressway near Indian Trace Boulevard in Weston, causing major traffic delays in the area, authorities confirmed.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, rescue crews responded just after 9 a.m. and found a pickup truck had slammed into the rear of a semi-truck and became wedged underneath the trailer.
Deputies said at least one person was trapped inside the pickup and had to be extricated by technical rescue teams.
They said the individual was airlifted by Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue’s Air Rescue team to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment. Deputies said the person was in stable condition at the time of transport.

Emergency crews remained at the scene Saturday morning as investigators worked to determine what led to the crash. A city of Weston spokesperon wrote in a post on X that the Sawgrass Expressway “partially reopened” at 10:05 a.m.
Authorities said the Florida Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash.
No other details about the crash were immediately released.
