CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — A crash involving a tractor-trailer and a dump truck shut down multiple lanes of the Sawgrass Expressway in Coral Springs early Wednesday morning after drywall and concrete barriers spilled across the highway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP officials said the crash happened around 2:23 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the Sawgrass Expressway, just north of the Sample Road exit.

Troopers said a flatbed tractor-trailer carrying drywall was traveling south in the outside lane behind a dump truck when the driver of the tractor-trailer apparently did not see the slower-moving truck ahead.

According to troopers, the tractor-trailer driver swerved east at the last second, but the front right side of the truck struck the rear left side of the dump truck.

After the collision, the tractor-trailer left the roadway and slammed into a concrete barrier wall, FHP officials confirmed.

The impact caused the truck to lose its drywall load and pushed part of a “temporary Jersey barrier” into the northbound lanes, troopers said.

They also confirmed that debris blocked several lanes in both directions.

Authorities said all southbound lanes were closed and traffic was being diverted off the highway at Exit 11 near Sample Road. Northbound inside and center lanes were also blocked while crews worked to clear the roadway and repair the damaged barrier wall.

No injuries were reported.
