Tropical Depression 2 forecast to strengthen into tropical storm; threatens Florida Panhandle

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. — Tropical Depression 2 is forecast strengthen into a tropical storm on Monday before threatening Florida’s Panhandle.

South Florida will have no direct impacts from the system this week, though drier air is forecast to filter in behind it midweek.

This lower storm chance will keep temperatures above normal, with heat index values approaching Heat Advisory criteria each afternoon.

As of Monday evening, Tropical Depression 2 was located about 105 miles south of Panama City.

It was moving northwest at 3 mph with maximum winds of 35 mph.

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the Alabama Gulf coast from the Florida border to the Mississippi border.
