Will Bed, Bath & Beyond ditch coupons?

Retailer facing profit downturn

MIAMI – Forget death and taxes; Bed, Bath & Beyond coupons have always been something that hard working citizens across the country could depend upon.

But that may not always be the case.

According to Good Housekeeping, the ubiquitous 20%-off coupons may soon fade away into history, joining dinosaurs, VCR's and phone books.

The simple problem is that the coupons are still popular while the company's profits are sinking.  Bed, Bath & Beyond profits fell by 10% in the last quarter despite revenue rising 1.7%.

Good Housekeeping says it's because people are using the coupons too much; never paying full price for an item they can purchase for a discount whenever the next blue and white coupon arrives in the mail.

It's not written in stone that the retailer will kick the coupons to the curb, but the company has previously promised investors they'd scale back on promotions.

So the bottom line is this:  If you've been eyeing an extra set of 500-thread-count sheets or a Pyrex measuring cup, the time to act is now.
