KENDALL, Fla. — The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is hosting its annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Saturday morning in support of Special Olympics Florida, bringing together deputies, professional staff, athletes and supporters to promote inclusion and opportunity for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
The event began at 8 a.m. at Miami Dade College’s Kendall Campus, where participants gathered to carry the “Flame of Hope,” a symbol of courage and achievement for Special Olympics athletes.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest grassroots fundraising and awareness campaign for Special Olympics worldwide. Each year, law enforcement officers participate in torch runs and related events to help raise funds and awareness for programs that support athletes with intellectual disabilities.
Deputies and staff with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office were joined by Special Olympics Florida athletes and supporters, highlighting the partnership between law enforcement and the community they serve.
Organizers say the event represents “honor, unity and community service” while helping empower “athletes to achieve their goals, build confidence and inspire others.”
MDSO says the Torch Run also reflects its ongoing commitment to strengthening relationships with the community while supporting opportunities for Special Olympics athletes across Florida.
