MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The search for a missing Miami Gardens Police Department K-9 officer has come to a happy ending.

Officials said Sunday that the 2-year-old beige Labrador named Gael is back with his MGPD handler.

The positive update comes several days after the department issued a desperate plea to the public.

It started Monday around 9:30 p.m. when officers said Gael jumped out of a police cruiser and ran across the street on northwest Second Avenue.

Local 10 News obtained surveillance video showing Gael running down the street, sprinting past businesses.

The search throughout the week would be extensive, as SKY 10 captured the department’s mobile command trucks on scene while officers went door to door searching for their four-legged colleague.

“All of our canines are very special to our department,” Miami Gardens Police Spokeswoman Diana Delgado said at the time. “They’re all trained to the best of their capacity, and with the best trainers.”

Miami Gardens PD posted a thank you message to all the members of the public who called in tips and helped to locate Gael.

The details into how and where Gael was found have yet to be released.
