Students escorted to bathroom at Coral Spring High School amid security concerns

Petition to stop new rule receives thousands of signatures

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Several school fights captured on cellphone video at the end of last year exposed security issues at Coral Springs High School, and now students must be escorted by security to use the restroom during class time.

"I don't like it because I have an emergency and sometimes security don't even come," freshman Monica Moussignets said.

Students who are not happy about the change have created a petition to stop it, which has already garnered thousands of signatures.

Students said they now have to weigh whether it's worth being late to their next class in between periods to take a bathroom break.

"The lines are crazy to get into the bathroom," freshman Melanie Mitre said.

School officials said that it is all part of their effort to provide a safe learning environment.
