Miami-Dade elementary school principal removed after DUI citation

Deborah Darbonne reassigned after criminal citation

MIAMI – A Miami-Dade elementary school principal has been removed from her position after she was cited for DUI.

Deborah Darbonne was the principal at Wesley Matthews Elementary in Miami when she was stopped July 21 while speeding on U.S. 1 and Southwest 70th Street.

However, despite being given a criminal citation, Darbonne was never charged with a misdemeanor.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools has since reassigned Darbonne pending further investigation.

“Although this is a non-school related incident, the district still holds all employees to a high standard of professionalism," a school district spokeswoman said. "If the courts conclude that the employee has violated any law, we will take all appropriate disciplinary action.”
