Custodian gives gloves off his hands to student using socks to keep warm

Recognized for his act of kindness

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WISC-TV) - A Janesville custodian gave the gloves off of his hands Tuesday morning to a student he saw using socks to keep warm, according to a Facebook post from the school district.

Lincoln Elementary School head custodian Melvin Crawford noticed a student walking across the school grounds with socks on their hands to keep warm, district officials said.

Crawford took off his own gloves and gave them to the student, and said he did not need them back, according to the post.

A parent saw Crawford give the student his gloves and told school leaders about his act of kindness.

Janesville Superintendent Steve Pophal gave Crawford a “Promise Keeper” pin for what he did.
