Miami-Dade, Broward rank mid-pack among Florida school districts

MIAMI – South Florida school systems rank in mid-pack when it comes to the top educational systems in the state.

Niche.com, a site designed to analyze and rank schools and neighborhoods, recently released its rankings for all 67 school districts in the state. Broward County Public Schools ranked 29th overall, while Miami-Dade County Public Schools was a slot behind in 30th.

Each district was given a grade in 10 distinct categories as well as an overall ranking.

Broward County Schools earned the following grades:

  • OVERALL: B
  • Academics: B-
  • Culture & Diversity: A+
  • Health & Safety: B
  • Teachers: C+
  • Resources & Facilities: B
  • Clubs: C+
  • Sports: C-

Miami-Dade County Public Schools scored:

  • OVERALL: B
  • Academics: B-
  • Culture & Diversity: A-
  • Health & Safety: B+
  • Teachers: B-
  • Resources & Facilities: B
  • Clubs: C
  • Sports: C-

The Monroe County School district just missed out on the top 10, placing 12th. Palm Beach County schools finished 14th.

Niche.com says their rankings are based on key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents from the U.S. Department of Education. Test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, SAT/ACT scores and teacher quality are all part of the ranking system.

The St. Johns County School District was ranked tops overall in Florida. Gadsden County Schools were ranked worst in the state.
