Jenny McCarthy joining 'The View' as co-host

Barbara Walters announces former Playboy model will join the table

NEW YORK – That was quick.

After Barbara Walters announced on "The View" last week that they would not be in a hurry to find a replacement for Elisabeth Hasselbeck, ABC confirmed Monday that the ladies would be welcoming Jenny McCarthy as their new co-host.

"We are delighted that Jenny will be joining us as a permanent co-host on 'The View' starting in September," said Walters. "Jenny brings us intelligence as well as warmth and humor. She can be serious and outrageous. She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point of view. Jenny will be a great addition to the show as we usher in an exciting new chapter for 'The View.'"

McCarthy, a former Playboy model, brings an edgier and comedic view to the table.  She has appeared on the show 17 times, and as guest host eight times.

"I'm beyond thrilled to be joining Barbara and the other amazing women at the table," said McCarthy, who recently hosted an eponymous VH1 late-night talk show. "I look forward to helping make hot topics a little bit hotter, and showing my mom that my interrupting skills have finally paid off."

McCarthy may be a replacement for Joy Behar, who is leaving "The View" in August.  Barbara Walters will also retire next year.

McCarthy officially joins "The View" in September for season 17.
