MIAMI A Local 10 News Friday tip: If you don't care for Angelina Jolie's new Malificent, watch Colombians Sofia Vergara and John Leguizamo make Miami look good in their recent independent film Chef. But don't go hungry to the theater.

The movie is all about good food. Vergara and Leguizamo starred in the low-budget comedy with Jon Favreau, Scarlett Johansson, Bobby Cannavale and Robert Downey Jr.

The heartfelt father-son bonding story starts in Los Angeles. Forbes said Favreau's tale offered several inspiring lessons on entrepreneurship and relevant examples on how a small business can exploit the power of social media.

Favreau -- who wrote, produced and directed the film -- plays Miami-born chef Carl Casper. Vergara plays his ex-wife Inez.

Inez is the daughter of Cuban migrants. Vergara plays the character with the swag of a Colombian Barranquillera and the confidence of a Miami fashionista. Leguizamo plays the role of a loyal sous-chef with the strong work ethic of an ambitious migrant.

In the film, Vergara takes viewers on a  journey through Miami, including a fun night out at the night club Hoy Como Ayer  on Eighth Street in Little Havana, and shines during an inspiring scene in Versailles, the popular Cuban meeting point.

Cuban food inspires inspires the Chef, known as El Jefe. The released a new e-cook book with six recipes is called The Official 'Chef' the Film Cookbook: Recipes from El Jefe.

The soundtrack is also sunny tropical fun. It includes Perico Hernandez, Pete Rodriguez, Roberto Roena and Gente de Zona. It's on iTunes.

The film takes a food truck -- reminiscent of Miami Jefe's Original Fish Taco & Burgers -- from a warehouse in Overtown to Ocean Drive on South Beach, where the crew has a moment with a Miami Beach code enforcement officer on a bicycle. Then they take the road to New Orleans and other parts of the U.S.

Vergara, who used to live in Miami, is also starring on gossip columns, as she recently announced on Twitter that she split with her fiancee Nick Loeb.The news hit fans a few days after the final episode of the fifth season of Modern Family aired May 21.

Vergara later said it was because they both couldn't compromise on a balance of their professional and personal lives.  A few days after the break-up she was seen having fun in New Orleans with her family.

Vergara has plenty of reasons to smile. The Rotten Tomatoes' audience gave her recent film good reviews: 90 percent said they liked it.  And the average rating on the "Tomato Meter" was 7 out of 10.
