Ultra Music Festival day 2 begins in downtown Miami

EDM blasts again from Bayfront Park

MIAMI – Brazilians know how to throw a good party. And Ultra Music Festival's second day began midday Saturday with two brasileiros on the main stage -- DJ Lukas Ruiz, better known as Vintage Culture,  and Alok Petrillo.

Many of the kandi kids attending Ultra this weekend traveled from all over the world to dance to Afrojack, Avicci and Tiësto, who will also be performing on the main stage Saturday.  Security at the festival was expecting some 17,000 Ultra fans.

"It's in our spring break so we come here and it's a lot of fun," said Angel Alverde, who traveled from Mexico to Miami for the festival.

It won't be easy to get around downtown Miami this weekend, as the festival at Bayfront Park, 301 Biscayne Blvd., continues through Sunday.

Miami police closed Biscayne Boulevard northbound and will be using the southbound lanes to route northbound traffic. Southbound traffic will be flowing west of Biscayne Boulevard.

Miami Fire Rescue and Miami police were out in force. Miami Cmdr. Esther Farmer said on Twitter officers had a roll call about 8 a.m.

"Keeping our community safe," Farmer said.

Paramedics said they were ready to help Ultra attendees who were struggling to recover from -- Miami Music Week and Winter Music Conference -- Friday night into Saturday morning parties, while out under the sun at Ultra Saturday.

Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius "Iggy" Carroll had some tips for the wild:

"Make sure you have eaten, make sure you stay hydrated, with the the weather the way it is," Carroll said. "Also, if you're going to consume any alcohol, you should make sure you don't consume too much."

The Ultra festival's second day is set to end at 11 p.m. with Hardwell's fireworks on the main stage.
