MIAMI – After a 21-year-old gunman killed rising star Christina Grimmie in Orlando, fans were sharing some of their favorite YouTube moments. 

She started gaining popularity about six years ago. Hundreds of followers submitted requests to the singer-pianist student. She couldn't keep up.

"She was one of the first YouTube singers I ever watched," Cara Marshall said. 

Over the years, her videos attracted millions of views. Grimmie had been on The Next Big Sound's Social 50 for the last 75 weeks. The list ranks popularity on YouTube, Vine, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr and Wikipedia. 

Grimmie made it to the Billboard Hot 100 when she was on NBC's  "The Voice" reality TV show in 2014. During her audition, Adam Levine said he believed she could be a "huge star." The 22-year-old, who also had high rankings on the Billboard's Pop Digital Songs sales chart, had big dreams. 

"We lost a beautiful soul with an amazing voice," Levine said on an Instagram post.
