Art 'Baseliando' guide: Satellite fairs

Nearly 20 satellite fairs make a statement away form convention center

MIAMI - Along with Art Basel Miami Beach come the satellite fairs this weekend. The massive events bringing artwork from all over the world can be overwhelming.

This list of satellite fairs should help:

Miami Beach 

 

CONVENTION CENTER TENT

Design Miami: The international high-end fair celebrates design culture and commerce in conjunction with the Art Basel fairs. They will be featuring 33 galleries.  

Practical information: It will be open on the corner of Meridian Avenue and 19th Street in Miami Beach from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday; 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday; and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday. Admission is $25 when the ticket is purchased online and $30 on-site.

 

OCEAN DRIVE TENT

SCOPE Miami Beach: The contemporary art satellite fair returns with 140 exhibitors from 25 countries and 60 cities. 

Practical information: It opens from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday at 801 Ocean Dr., in Miami Beach. Tickets range from $150 to $35. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit their Eventbrite's page. 

 

OCEAN DRIVE TENT

Untitled: The fair is presenting 68 projects and a program of conversations

Practical information: The fair is on the beach on Ocean Drive and 12th Street. It will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Wednesday to Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday. General admission is $30 and $20 for Miami Beach residents.

 

INDIAN BEACH PARK TENT

PULSE Art Fair: The fair has curated sections with galleries presenting three or more artists in the North Tent, solo sections, a schedule of conversations and alternative models in the South Tent. 

Practical information: The fair will be at 4601 Collins Ave., from 1 to 5 p.m., Thursday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. General admission is $25

 

HOTEL ON COLLINS AVE. 

AQUA Art Miami:  The fair will feature 52 international exhibitors in exhibition rooms that open into a courtyard. 

Practical information: The fair is held at the Aqua Hotel, 1530 Collins Ave., and is open from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday.

 

SOBE HOTEL 

Fridge Art Fair: The fair focuses on individual artists and this year they will have a Doggie Wall of Fame highlighting the rise of celebrity dogs. 

Practical information: The fair is at The Blue Moon Hotel, 944 Collins Ave., and will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. until Sunday. Admission is free. 

 

 

Miami

BRICKELL

Fair: The Spinello Projects exhibit aims to address the gender inequality in the art world by focusing on female artists. 

Practical information: The fair is on the fourth floor at the Brickell City Center, 81 SW 8th St., and will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Thursday to Sunday. Admission is free. 

 

TENTS ON THE BAY

Art Miami and CONTEXT: The two sister fairs feature works from the 20th and 21st centuries. Art Miami features about 140 galleries, and CONTEXT features 95 galleries with cutting-edge talent.

Practical information: The two fairs are at One Herald Plaza, the former site of the Miami Herald. The fairs open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday to Sunday. Admission for a day to both fairs is $50. 

 

BUILDING NEAR OVERTOWN

NADA: The New Art Dealers Alliance fair aims to introduce underexposed art by the world's youngest and strongest art galleries. This year they will have at least 100 exhibitors from 16 countries. 

Details: It will be at the Ice Palace Film Studios, 1400 North Miami Ave., from 2 to 7 p.m., Thursday; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday;  11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday. They will have complimentary shuttle service from the Miami Beach Convention Center to the fair at Washington Avenue and 17th Street.  Admission is $20

 

MALL IN DOWNTOWN MIAMI

Prizm Art Fair: The fair is exhibiting works that explore the African diaspora. 

Practical information: The exhibit takes over the top two floors of a mall at 141 E. Flagler St.. and will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Dec. 5-17. General admission is $15. 

 

HISTORIC OVERTOWN

Art Africa Miami: The fair's Back to Black: No On/Off Ramps exhibit features the works of 25 artists on the context of exploring the effects of the African diaspora. There is a schedule of lectures and documentaries. 

Practical information: The fair is in the area of Northwest Second Avenue between 9th and 20th Street. General admission is $15

 

BUILDING IN LITTLE HAITI

Art Beat: This fair is exhibiting art work by Haitian diaspora artists that was curated by Miami Herald photojournalist Carl Juste. It will be a celebration of Haitian culture with music and food. 

Practical information: The fair is at the Caribbean Marketplace, 5925 NE 2nd Ave. Admission is free. The fair will be open from 12 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 7 to 10 p.m., Friday; 12 to 2 p.m., Saturday for a $50 Chefs of the Caribbean Celebrity Brunch

 

TENT IN MIDTOWN 

Superfine: This fair will feature 46 exhibitors and over 1,200 new works at accessible prices from $200 to $4,000. 

Practical information: The fair is open at 56 NE 29 St. from 11:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., Wednesday; 4 to 11 p.m., Thursday; 1 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday. General admission is $10

 

TENTS NEAR OVERTOWN 

Spectrum Miami, Red Dot Miami and ArtSpot Miami: The three shows require one ticket. Spectrum features art work from $500 to $20,000. Red Dot features more than 75 galleries featuring art work from $1,000 to $50,000. ArtSpot showcases art with emphasis on Latin American artists. 

Practical information: The tents will be at 1700 NE 2 Ave., from 1 to 9 p.m., Friday, 1 to 10 p.m., Friday, 1 to 9 p.m., Saturday and 12 to 5 p.m., Sunday. General admission is $25. 

 

AT MANA IN WYNWOOD

Pinta Art Fair: The organizers claim they are the nation’s leading Ibero-America art fair.

Practical information: The fair at Mana Wynwood, 2217 NE 5 Ave., will be open from 5 to 9 p.m., Thursday; 12 to 8 p.m., Saturday and 12 to 7 p.m., Sunday.  General admission is $20.
