MIAMI ā A Miami police officer proposed to his girlfriend Thursday after being awarded "Officer of the Month."
Officer Henry Ortega was honored and presented with a plaque during a ceremony at the Miami Police Department.
Ortega took the opportunity to thank his girlfriend of more than five years and the mother of his two daughters.
"She's been the backbone not only of my career, but also in life," Ortega said.
Ortega then called her up to the stage.
"We've been through thick and thin, but overall we've always, you know, pushed through and been successful," he said. "I thank you, and today I want to ask you, 'Rosie, will you marry me?'"
Ortega then got down on one knee and pulled an engagement ring out of his pocket.
She kissed him on the lips in an obvious sign of acceptance.
The Miami Police Department shared the moment on its Twitter page.
