BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Last week, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation ordered the temporary closure of two food establishments due to health and safety violations.
Asahi Restaurant in Sunrise was shut down on April 28 after inspectors found live and dead roaches throughout the kitchen and dining areas, mold-like substances on food-contact surfaces, and improperly stored food.
This marked the second closure for Asahi, which was also shut down in November 2023 for similar roach issues.
On May 1, Frank’s Fresh Fruits Mini Market in Miami was ordered closed after inspectors documented 40 violations, including flying insects, a wild bird inside the premises, unsafe food storage practices, improper waste disposal, and unsanitary conditions in its mobile food dispensing vehicle.
Frank’s also needs to address plumbing, water, and natural gas issues before it can safely operate.
Asahi was allowed to reopen following an ordered cleanup and re-inspection.
