Fortune recently released its 20th annual list of the 100 best companies to work for. Rankings are based on employee surveys of more than 232,000 workers among more than 1,000 companies, addressing factors including company culture and employee engagement. Here's the top 10.10. Quicken Loans. Hoverboards to ride around the office? A basketball court that overlooks downtown Detroit? That's what employees get at this online home lender's "vibrant" Michigan headquarters. Plus, workers received more than 1,500 event tickets last year, thanks to the founder, who owns the Cleveland Cavaliers. Plus, staff get a "great feeling" from its mission of providing home loans.9. Acuity Insurance. Employees reportedly feel "a sense of purpose and responsibility" at this Sheboygan, Wisconsin, casualty insurer. Not only can employees vote on ways the company gives back, but it also installed a permanent 65-foot Ferris "Charity Wheel" at its headquarters for fundraising events. There are some just-for-fun perks, too, including a climbing wall and a dress policy that allows jeans.8. Salesforce. The San Francisco company's culture is best described by "Ohana" ("family" in Hawaiian). And CEO Marc Benioff is the "soul" behind the company that embraces equality, service and innovation. Salesforce donates subscriptions to nonprofits and educators, has given more than $137 million in charitable funds, and offers employees seven days off annually to volunteer.7. Ultimate Software. Located in Weston, Florida, this HR software maker offers "wonderful benefits, supportive management and an amazing work environment." That's probably why staffers feel "so lucky" to work there. A major bonus, each employee receives restricted stock units on day one.6. Genentech. Described as a "very fun company," this San Francisco biotech company's staffers feel connected to its larger mission to make drugs for life-threatening illnesses. When the FDA approves a medicine, employees celebrate by ringing a bell. Ding! Up goes employee morale.5. Edward Jones. Workers at this St. Louis investment giant (more specifically, a company with $980 billion in client assets) are beyond invested 3,000 of its employees have been there for more than 20 years. Full-timers receive more than 100 hours of annual training; more than a third of those hired are internal candidates. Plus, one staffer says, "Everyone is willing to help someone else be successful."4. Baird. This Milwaukee, Wisconsin, investment firm values integrity and teamwork. "Everyone is playing the same game and we are all equal contributors" is how one staffer feels about the fact that two-thirds of employees are shareholders of the company, which was founded in 1919 and is privately owned.3. Boston Consulting Group. Based in Boston, this global consulting firm's staff loves working with the best of the best each other. Employees rave about the benefits: Opportunities for growth are "unmatched," benefits, such as $5 co-pays, are "off the hook," and the work-life balance is achieved with a commitment to caring for the individual with sabbaticals, fitness centers and telecommuting.2. Wegmans Food Markets. Employees feel the love at this 100-year-old family-owned grocery chain in Rochester, New York. Employees have flexible schedules, ample promotion opportunities and "feel like family," Fortune reported. The small things like free birthday cakes and hot chocolate in the winter for outdoor workers make a huge difference.1. Google. For its sixth consecutive year, Google landed the No. 1 spot. Based in Mountain View, California, the $75 billion tech titan is famous for premier perks. Free gourmet food, haircuts and laundry services all contribute to a luxury employee experience. It also has morale down to a science. It expanded its parental-leave policies, after finding that mothers were leaving at higher rates. The result? A 50-percent reduction in attrition for working moms. Plus, employees describe the workplace as "safe and inclusive."
