FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The first over-the-counter birth control pill approved in the U.S. is available in stores and online this month.
The product is called O-Pill.
In the coming days, it can be bought directly from its own website, O-Pill.com, but it could take a few weeks for the medication to reach pharmacy shelves.
Manufacturer Perrigo has a suggested retail price of $20 for a one-month supply and $50 for a three-month supply.
The company says when taken as directed, O-Pill is 98 percent effective at preventing pregnancy.
That’s in line with the effectiveness of most birth control pills.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN BROWARD HEART WALK
And it’s that time of year again to lace up your sneakers and get ready for the Broward Heart Walk.
Twelve-year-old Zaniyah Hickman, who was born with a heart defect, will be leading “Team Z” in this year’s walk to support the American Heart Association.
“It definitely means the whole world to me to participate in such an exciting event,” she said.
“She was born with a heart condition called Truncus Arteriosus, she’s had three open heart surgeries and multiple cardiac catheterizations. They’ve done some amazing work to be able to allow her to have a healthy heart,” said her mother, Kelly Hickman.
The theme of this year’s event is “I Walk To Save Lives.”
The Broward Heart Walk gets underway Sunday, March 10 at Nova Southeastern University starting at 8 a.m.
