2-story home catches fire in Cooper City

Woman, 3 children, 3 dogs escape burning house

COOPER CITY, Fla. – A two-story home caught fire Friday morning in Cooper City, authorities said.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said the fire was reported just before 10:30 a.m. at a home in the 2900 block of Bogota Avenue.

Photos taken from the scene show heavy smoke coming from the large house.

Jachles said a woman who lives at the home noticed a fire in her garage and removed her two dogs from the garage.

He said the women then took her twin 3-year-old daughters and her 3-year-old nephew out of the house. Her other daughter was in school at the time, Jachles said.

Jachles said firefighters rescued a third dog from the patio of the home.

The Broward Sheriff Fire Marshal's Bureau and Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigation are investigating the cause of the fire, but authorities said the fire appears to have started behind the clothes dryer in the garage.

Jachles said there was heavy fire damage to the garage, moderate fire damage to the house and smoke damage throughout.

One firefighter sustained an ankle injury and was treated at Memorial Hospital West.

The woman and three children who live at the home are staying with relatives.
