Police: Teen Driving Stolen BMW Accidentally Shot

2 Others Leave Teen's Body Near Apartment Complex, PBSO Says

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. – A Coral Gables high school student was killed in Boynton Beach as Palm Beach Sheriff's deputies say he and his teenage friends went cruising for crime.

Gian Davis, 15, was accidentally shot in the back, investigators say, as he drove a stolen car Tuesday morning. One of his friends sitting on the back seat was playing with a gun when it went off, police say.

The 16-year-old and 14-year-old with Davis called 911 and initially told police that someone else had robbed them and shot Davis.

As deputies investigated, they learned that one of the teens was responsible, that they themselves were driving around looking for someone to rob, the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office says.

PBSO told Local 10's Baron James that no one was actually robbed.

Investigators say after the shooting, the teens left their friend's body at the entrance of the Heron Pointe apartments, then ditched the BMW they were using a few blocks away before returning to Davis. The car had been stolen overnight in Coconut Creek, police say.

PBSO dive team members spent part of the afternoon searching a canal outside the apartment complex for the gun.

The two surviving teens could face murder charges under the felony murder rule since their friend died during an alleged crime, police said.

"They came here to do a crime, and one paid the ultimate price for it," PBSO Deputy Eric Davis said.
