HIALEAH, Fla. – The Hialeah Police Department hit the streets Wednesday to put the brakes on fake auto insurance cards.
During a routine stop, police ask for a driver's license, a title and proof of insurance, and officers said some drivers present insurance cards that are not legitimate.

"You're under arrest if you've actually displayed a fake insurance card," said Carl Zogby with the Hialeah Police Department.
Local 10's Ben Kennedy rode along with Officer Andy Gutierrez, who pulled over drivers for expired tags, brake lights that were out and even a license plate about to fall off. But each driver's auto insurance turned out to be real.
Auto insurance companies at the police station ran digits for more than 70 officers on the road enforcing this policy.
"Don't try passing on a fake insurance card. It's a tremendous burden on other drivers," said Zogby.
Faking auto insurance is considered a type of fraud, and is a third-degree felony that can lead to arrest.
