FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Big changes are in store for Broward County property owners.

Under the new FEMA flood maps, 53 percent of properties have been removed from flood zones. This means their owners won't be required to buy flood insurance.

This is in addition to the 16 percent of properties that were already out of the flood zones.

Under the new maps, however, 6 percent of properties were placed into flood zones.
