MIAMI – The Facebook page purportedly belonging to the man shot by police after they said he bit another man's face Saturday reveals some insight into his life.
Rudy Eugene, 31, died Saturday after being shot by Officer Jose Ramirez. Police said he was the nude man seen on surveillance video near the MacArthur Causeway, fighting with Ronald Poppo, a 65-year-old homeless man. Police said Eugene bit off most of Poppo's face during the fight, and Ramirez shot him several times, killing him.
The circumstances leading to the fight with Poppo remain a mystery. Eugene's family members defended him, rejecting police theories that Eugene was in a drug-induced psychosis, which has yet to be confirmed by blood test results.
A Facebook page that appears to be Eugene's reveals quotes of a religious nature, some paraphrasing Bible verses, seeming to support his girlfriend's claim that he was religious and spiritual.
On April 18, a status update on the page said, "Everything His (sic) Its Season Time Purpose Under Heaven," an apparent reference to the Ecclesiastes verse saying, "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven."
On the same day, another update said, "Deliver me from my enemies, O my Lord; Defend me from those who rise up against me. For the Lord God is my defense."
Six days earlier, an update read, "The Lord side to my Lord,.' Sit at My right hand,. Till. I make. Your enemies Your footstool."
The investigation into the fight and Eugene's shooting continues.
Meanwhile, a fund has been established to help Poppo. Click here for more information.
