Man to oversee missing millionaire's fortune

Mystery surrounds multimillionaire's disappearance

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Another hearing was held Tuesday afternoon over the estate of a missing multimillionaire whose boat washed ashore on Fort Lauderdale Beach.

No one has seen or heard from Guma Aguiar since his boat washed ashore two weeks ago, but his wife and his mother are fighting for their right to his $90 million estate. It includes at least 24 properties, some of which are in Israel, three cars, a soccer club and a basketball club.

In court Tuesday, Judge Mark Speiser appointed longtime litigator Thomas Panza to oversee most of the estate.

Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler also was appointed in his capacity as an attorney to oversee the various lawsuits in which Aguiar is involved.

Whether Aguiar, a father of four, committed suicide or was lost at sea is unknown, as is the third possibility, a bombshell theory that he staged his disappearance.

The attorney for Aguiar's wife said last week that the GPS aboard his boat revealed that it motored east from his Rio Vista home and turned north before coming to a stop in the water. Some experts have speculated that Aguiar dropped anchor.

Minutes later, a grainy home video showed the vessel drifting ashore with its lights and engine on and no one aboard.
