FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The two teenagers accused of killing a man had a disagreement about how he should have been paid after introducing them to a female prostitute, said police.

Juan Xolo and Jose Carlos Llano are charged with killing Gregory Hypollite. The teenagers made their first appearance in court Thursday morning.

"The allegations for which you were brought to court today are of course murder in the second-degree," said Judge Michael Orlando. "There does appear to be enough facts to support a valid arrest."

Orlando ruled that the teens would stay in juvenile detention until their next court date.

"The judge found that there was probable cause for the arrest," said prosecutor Maria Schneider. "In the meantime, the state will review facts and circumstances. We will make a filing decision regarding what charges should be filed and whether they should be filed in juvenile or adult court."

Hypollite's body was found behind the Advanced Auto Parts store at 126 N. Federal Highway about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

According to an arrest affidavit, Xolo, 17, and Llano, 14, met with Hypollite, 32, about 2 a.m. and agreed to give him $40 if he introduced them to a female prostitute. But the woman refused to have sex with the teenagers because they only had $10 between them.

Hypollite still wanted to be paid for introducing them, and Llano went home to get cash, said police. He instead returned with a HP laptop and offered that as payment.

Hypollite refused to take it and an argument began, said police. The three then began fighting, and Llano told police he had Hypollite in a choke hold while Xolo stabbed him with a pen and hit him with a broken glass bottle.

Xolo denied using the bottle but admitted to stabbing Hypollite with a pen.

When officers arrived, they saw two teenagers hitting a man who was on the ground, said Hallandale Police Chief Dwayne Flournoy. The teenagers then ran away. Officers soon found Hypollite's body.

Neighbors said the Llano's parents clean office buildings at night and weren't home when the teenagers were out. One neighbor said the teenagers knocked on her door about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday asking for cigarettes. She said they appeared drunk.

Llano's parents were also in the courtroom during their hearing but had no comment on the teenagers' arrests. Llano's public defender said it's unclear if the teenagers were acting in self-defense.

"It's always going to be something we're going to explore, given the nature of the charge, and the allegations thus far," said attorney Gordon Weekes. "This is a very serious charge. The family is trying to pull together during this criminal process."

Both teenagers live in the same home with Llano's parents in Hallandale Beach. Llano attends Olsen Middle School.

The teenagers are scheduled to be back in court on Jan. 10th.
