Dogs will help survivors on one-month anniversary of school massacre

MIAMI – Two South Florida service dogs were onboard an important flight to Newtown, Connecticut Thursday.

The dogs are part of a K-9 service team that will help the victims and survivors of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting on the one-month anniversary of the tragic event.

People at the airport who saw the dogs before their journey to Connecticut told Local 10 they were touched by the dogs' mission.

"...They have a calling," said Lisa Leinau. "They're going to help some children who have been through a lot."

In total, five dogs from all over the country were sent to Newtown. Southwest Airlines donated all of the tickets needed to fly the entire crew, including the K-9 handlers.
