New ramp from SR 836 to 826 opens

Drivers to exit Dolphin Expressway about 1 mile sooner to enter Palmetto Expressway

MIAMI ā€“ The new flyover ramp taking drivers heading eastbound on the Dolphin Expressway (State Road 836) to the northbound Palmetto Expressway (State Road 826) opened at 5 a.m. Friday.

"So basically what's going to happen is drivers going eastbound on State Road 836 are going to have to exit a mile earlier than what they're accustomed to," said Oscar Gonzales with the Florida Department of Transportation. "Right after 87th Avenue, they're going to have to be on the right-hand side and take that ramp so that they can then access the new segmental bridge that's going to take them to northbound 826."

The 1785 foot-long flyover bridge is the first of four major segmental bridges to be opened as part of the Interchange Reconstruction Project.

"I think it'll alleviate a bunch of traffic. I usually take that route to work in the morning," said Carlos Padron.
