BankUnited Center hosts all women's MMA tournament

Kelsey DeSantis taking part in Championship Fighting Alliance's all women MMA tournament

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. ā€“ The Championship Fighting Alliance is having an all women's mixed martial arts tournament at the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables on Saturday, and a marine from Florida is taking part.

Kelsey DeSantis is a marine and professional mixed martial arts fighter.

"At this point, I just can't wait to get in there," she said.

DeSantis began fighting Muay Thai, a combat martial art originating from Thailand, about 10 years ago. On Saturday, she'll be one of eight female fighters participating in the tournament.

"Kelsey was the inspiration," said Jorge de la Noval, the chief executive officer of Championship Fighting Alliance. "They're very articulate. They're very outspoken. That sex appeal, and then again, they can beat you up."

"I have three priorities and that's training and fighting, studying business and getting my degree, and making sure that we have a veteran resource centers and helping out those who have served when they're returning," said DeSantis.

DeSantis is also the marine who took Justin Timberlake to the Marine Corps Ball.

"It was a great time," she said.

But DeSantis was only focused on fighting before the tournament started.

"This is my goal and my passion. I plan on taking it as far as it will allow me," she added.
