Miami police said the woman's condition has improved. She also gave detectives a description of the two suspects involved.

According to the woman, she was confronted and robbed Wednesday by two Latin men, both possibly in their 20s, with a heavy Spanish accent. At least one of the men was armed with a handgun, said police.

Both of the men demanded her belongings, but prior to fleeing, police said one of the robbers shot her in the neck.

In fear for her life, police said the woman grabbed a towel, applied pressure and ran into a beauty salon at 6907 West Flagler Street, just around the corner from her home, and asked for help.

Neighbors said the woman lives with her husband in an efficiency apartment. The owner of the beauty salon said it was the third violent robbery in the area in the last month.

The woman was transported by Miami Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Unit, where she was listed in critical condition. Police said she is now expected to be OK.

Anyone with information on the shooting or about the suspects is asked to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-6160.
