MIAMI – A South Florida DJ was charged with Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer Friday after a police-involved shooting Thursday morning.
According to detectives, officers responded to 551 NE 177th Street about 5 a.m. Thursday to conduct an investigation of a stolen cell phone. Once the officers approached the door and announced their presence, 32-year-old Jeffery Paul, a well-known area DJ who goes by the nickname DJ Big Boy, opened the door armed with a hand gun. At that time, there was a confrontation and shots were fired.
Paul's brother, Bernie Jadott, said he was home sleeping when suddenly he heard a noise in the back yard.
He alerted Paul, who grabbed a hand gun and headed for the door.
He says his brother opened the door expecting burglars, and before he could say a word, police officers opened fire.
Paul was rushed Ryder Trauma Center where he remains in serious condition.
