Firefighters put out grass fire in Southwest Miami-Dade

Florida Forestry: 100 acres of grass was burning at SW 162nd Avenue & Bird Drive

MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews battled a grass fire in a wooded area in southwest Miami-Dade, Sunday night. The fire is now out.

According to the Florida Forestry, 100 acres of grass were burning at Southwest 162nd Avenue and Bird Drive.

Authorities said the fire was not a threat to nearby buildings.

MDFR dropped water to help extinguish the grass fire.

The Florida Forestry said the grass fire continued to grow Sunday night because the area was very grassy and wet.

There is an FPL substation nearby, but officials said there were no reported problems with it.
