FPL readying for demolition day at Port Everglades
Power company knocking down landmark red-and-white stacks
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla – Demolition day is coming to Port Everglades.
Florida Power & Light (FPL) announced that it is demolishing the four landmark red-and-white-striped, 350-foot-tall stacks at its Port Everglades power plant.
The stack have been a part of South Florida's skyline since the 1960's, but will come down on July 16.
FPL said they will make way for a new, high-efficiency, clean power plant.
FPL bragged that the new energy center will be 35 percent more fuel-efficient than its predecessor and reduce air emissions by more than 90 percent.
