Miami police ID man in officer-involved shooting

Police say 34-year-old Emmanuel Reyes pulled gun on officer at traffic stop

MIAMI – Miami police have identified the man who allegedly pulled a gun on an officer at a traffic stop in the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami.

At approximately 8 p.m. Wednesday, police said an officer was attempting to stop a driver near Northwest 17th Avenue and 3rd Street, wanted in connection with a narcotics investigation.

One witness said the driver pulled out a gun after being stopped

"The officer was forced to fire. Now, as to what actually took place, we're trying to unravel," said Miami Police spokesperson Kenia Reyes. 

The man, who has been identified by Miami police as 34-year-old Emmanuel Reyes, was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital and was undergoing surgery, according to Reyes.

The condition of the officer was not immediately known. 

The investigation continues.
