MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Soccer fans will converge on Sun Life Stadium this Friday evening for the South Florida leg of the CONCACAF Gold Cup Tournament.
On July 12, at 7 p.m., Trinidad and Tobago will face off against Haiti, followed by Honduras versus El Salvador.
At the J and S Barber Shop in Miami Gardens, the games were all the buzz over the din of the non-stop haircuts. Barber Julio Stanley is from Honduras.
"I enjoy that the guys are playing from the heart and they give it their best, especially when they are representing their country," Stanley told local 10's Neki Mohan.
His client, Pastor Clarence Brownlee, a life long Floridian, agrees.
"Soccer is like the flavoring of what south Florida is all about," said Brownee. "It joins all the cultures together."
International soccer has a core following in South Florida because of the diversity. Still, there is lots of room for growth in the area of fan support.
George Luis, also a lifelong soccer fan, believes the game can get the support it needs here in Florida.
"If you look at the demographics, we are all Caribbean here, we love the game and we are all passionate," said Luis.
Sun Life Stadium hosted soccer royalty last month when Haiti's national team took on World Champion Spain. The most popular teams in international soccer are headed to Sun Life Stadium in August. Teams like Real Madrid, Chelsea and AC Milan.
