Family wants help finding man's killer

Marcus Smith killed outside mother-in-law's house

MIAMI ā€“ The wife and sons of a 58-year-old man killed during a robbery asked for help finding his killer.

Marcus Smith was at his mother-in-law's house in the 500 block of Northwest 44th Street on Tuesday afternoon supervising her window installation when two men approached him, shot him several times, took his jewelry, and ran off, Miami police said.

Smith was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died. Carla Smith, his wife of 30 years, spoke to the media Wednesday.

"I can't put myself in the heads of the monsters who did this," she said. "My husband, my sons' father, was taken. He's gone."

Smith retired from the Department of Corrections in 2009.

"The man gave 30 years to this community. It's time for this community to give back," said Miami Police Det. Ezra Washington.

Investigators said both men were in their 20s, but didn't provide more of a description.

Anyone with any information regarding the robbery and killing of Smith is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
