State attorneys say certain witnesses unavailable for trial

Quentin Wyche

MIAMI – Authorities say the case about a man accused of stabbing a Florida International University football player to death will be refiled.

The State Attorney's Office said the Quentin Wyche case was set for trial on Monday, July 29, but state attorneys were unable to proceed due to the unavailability of certain witnesses.

Attorneys said the court denied their request for a continuance on Wednesday.

A nolle prosse was announced, but attorneys said they have not abandoned the prosecution for this case. Officials said the case has been refiled and a new arrest warrant has already been signed and filed, and Wyche has agreed to arrange his surrender.

Wyche has not turned himself in yet, but attorneys said they expect him to do so soon.

Wyche is facing second-degree murder charges in the stabbing death of Kendall Berry. Police said Berry was fatally stabbed with a pair of scissors outside the school gym in 2010.

Police said the incident began as an argument over a girl.
